Edie was born the bastard daughter to a bastard son of a Blacklance Paragon. Though taciturn and reserved, her father never made her feel accidental or unwanted. He raised Edie alone after her elven mother abandoned her human paramour and infant daughter, vanishing into the Wilds. The pair made their humble home on the edges of the vast Toirneach Bog in Locthwain. Edie learned to live with little: no extended family, no playmates, no money, no frivolities, no fresh fruit. As a result, she's become a resilient and adaptable weed of a woman, grasping and consuming whatever necessities that she can, just like the carnivorous plants that grow alongside her in the barren bogs.
That's not to say that Edie has never wanted for more. In the colder months, when the peat moss froze and harvesting halted, Edie and her father wintered in the villages below the floating Castle Locthwain. Here, Edie learned what it meant to experience jealousy and resentment. She looked on enviously as village youths took up trades, paired off to start families of their own, left on quests, or returned from adventures heralded by fanfare. Worse, they all seemed so stupid compared to her. They were soft, idealistic, delicate little things who couldn't possibly understand that to live is to take. To be ugly. To wallow in the mire. Edie alone was the true embodiment of Locthwain's highest virtue—persistence.
Even so, Edie did not leave immediately when her Strixhaven invitation came. Leaving would mean abandoning her father, who was well into his sixties and rapidly succumbing to his human mortality. Her attempts to ward off the effects of her father's aging through homebrewed tinctures and potions were insufficient, so after much discussion she eventually agreed to travel to Arcavios to study under the tutelage of Dean Valentin. She has every intention of returning to Toirneach Bog with the knowledge to help her father persevere past the bounds of his human limitations.

appearance
Edie's fine, wispy hair ties itself into knots and even here, so far from home, it still smells faintly of peat moss smoke. Her face looks unnatural when she smiles and her elven pallor leans toward sickly instead of ethereal. Her ears stick out slightly and are oblong but don't come to a sharp point. The Wilds live within her and if you watch her irises for long enough they move and shift like slowly growing moss.
abilities
extra notes
🦠 This is my Shrek/Colin Robinson expy.
🦠 Cultivates and breeds carnivorous plants in little terrariums in her dorm room.
🦠 Has a prejudice against elves and other lineages who have unnaturally long life through birth.
🦠 Her father hails originally from Vantress and her mother is a creature of the Wilds, more akin to fae than the elven royalty of Garenbrig.
